Mechanism
Phytosphingosine is a type of sphingolipid that exists in the stratum corneum in its free form or as a backbone of ceramide. It controls skin health, such as epidermal homeostasis through cell proliferation in the epidermis along with ceramides. As phytosphingosine facilitates ceramide synthesis, it is used as a precursor of ceramide synthesis in the skin. And it is not only effective in ameliorating skin diseases with chronic inflammation such as atopy but also displays antibacterial properties.
